About the TOEIC test

What does TOEIC Listening and Reading measure?

TOEIC Listening and Reading assesses how well non-native English speakers understand written and spoken English in workplace and everyday professional situations. It measures comprehension rather than specialist business knowledge.

Questions use contexts such as meetings, travel, recruitment, purchasing, schedules, customer service, finance and office communication. Universities, employers and training organisations use TOEIC scores to set English requirements and document progress.

TOEIC scores

How the TOEIC score works

Listening and Reading are each scored from 5 to 495. The two section scores are combined to produce a total between 10 and 990. There is no universal pass mark.

Your required score depends on the institution or employer requesting it. Confirm that requirement first, then build your preparation around the gap between your current result and target.
