Searching for the “latest TOEIC format” can bring up several apparently contradictory answers. Some pages describe 200 questions; others describe 90. Both can refer to real TOEIC Listening and Reading versions.
Before choosing practice materials, establish exactly which version your institution or test provider has booked.
When was TOEIC last updated?
One major documented revision to the traditional Listening and Reading test took effect in June 2018 in the ETS Global information reviewed for this article. Changes included a different balance of question types, some conversations with more than two speakers, questions connecting audio with graphics, and reading tasks involving three related texts. That date should not be presented as the last change to everything carrying the TOEIC name. Different products, delivery options and administrative arrangements have their own histories.
ETS also offers a shorter multistage adaptive Listening and Reading version. An ETS article dated August 2025 describes this option, but the article date alone does not establish its first worldwide launch date. ETS Global’s adaptive-test overview.

Availability depends on the testing programme and provider. ETS Global describes restricted institutional or organisational access to the shorter version; it should not be assumed to be interchangeable with any public booking. ETS Global’s current L&R format and availability.
How often does TOEIC change?
The official sources reviewed do not establish a fixed annual redesign schedule. A new edition of a preparation book does not automatically mean the exam has changed.
Separate three questions: has the structure changed, has the delivery method changed, or are you simply seeing different practice questions? Only the first two may require a significant adjustment to your preparation plan.
What should change in your study routine?
For the traditional test, practise managing a long listening section and maintaining reading concentration across the full session. Short exercises build individual skills, but they cannot show how you handle fatigue near the end of a complete test.
For the adaptive version, use the provider’s current familiarisation materials to understand the unit structure and interface. Do not assume a strong result on a fixed practice set recreates an adaptive score calculation.
For either version, review meaning as well as grammar. Consider this original example:
“The delivery was expected on Tuesday, but the warehouse has confirmed Thursday instead.”
If asked when the delivery will arrive, Tuesday is a distraction. You need to follow the correction and identify the current arrangement. Build the habit of listening for changes, reasons and implied meaning.
Before your next practice test
Check the exact product name, duration and delivery method on your booking. Then choose practice with the appropriate structure. TOEIC Speaking and Writing is a separate assessment and should not be confused with Listening and Reading.
