How to use this training

Read the method, answer each practice check without looking at the explanation, then open the answer. Aim to understand why the distractors are wrong. That elimination habit matters as much as knowing the rule.

Module 1 • Listening Parts 1-2

Photographs and question-response

In Part 1, identify people, objects, actions and location before listening. In Part 2, focus on the question word and communicative purpose. The correct response often answers indirectly, so meaning beats repeated vocabulary.

Part 1: scan

Build a quick mental list of visible nouns, positions and actions before the statements begin.

Part 2: classify

Decide whether you heard who, where, when, why, yes/no, a request or a suggestion.

Avoid echoes

Distractors often repeat a word from the prompt while giving an illogical response.

Practice check: “Where should I leave these signed contracts?”

A. I signed them yesterday.   B. On Ms Patel’s desk.   C. Yes, the contract was renewed.

Reveal the answer and method

B. “Where” requires a place. A and C repeat contract-related words but do not answer the question.

Part 1 check: A woman is standing beside an open filing cabinet and holding a folder. Which statement fits best?

A. She is putting furniture together.   B. She is examining a document.   C. The cabinets are being delivered.   D. The office is completely empty.

Reveal the answer and method

B. It describes the visible person and object without inventing an unseen action or incorrect condition.

Module 2 • Listening Parts 3-4

Conversations and talks

Read the questions before the audio. Predict whether each asks for the topic, problem, detail, purpose or next action. Follow speaker roles and listen closely after contrasts such as but, however and actually.

Man: The supplier says the replacement parts will arrive on Thursday, but our installation team is booked elsewhere then. Woman: I’ll ask whether Friday morning is possible and update the client before lunch.

What will the woman probably do next?

A. Install the parts herself
B. Cancel the client’s order
C. Contact the supplier about Friday
D. Book another installation team

Reveal the answer and method

C. “Ask whether Friday morning is possible” means she will contact the supplier to change the delivery schedule.

Fast reading rule: For purpose questions, connect the problem to the action. For detail questions, return to the exact sentence. For inference questions, choose only what the text supports—never what merely sounds reasonable.
Module 3 • Reading Parts 5-7

Sentence completion, text completion and reading

For Part 5, identify the missing grammatical function. For Part 6, check how the sentence connects to the whole text. For Part 7, read the question first and search for a supported paraphrase.

Parts 5-6

  • ✓ Identify the required word form.
  • ✓ Check tense, agreement and prepositions.
  • ✓ Use the surrounding sentences for connectors.

Part 7

  • ✓ Read questions before the passage.
  • ✓ Locate names, dates and conditions.
  • ✓ Match meaning through paraphrase.

Part 5 practice

The conference organiser will confirm the final schedule _____ all speakers have replied.

A. once   B. during   C. despite   D. unless

Reveal the answer and method

A. once. It introduces a time clause meaning “after all speakers have replied.” During requires a noun phrase; despite expresses contrast; unless gives a negative condition.

Module 4 • Test strategy

Protect your time and your score

Do

  • ✓ Answer easier questions immediately.
  • ✓ Use grammar to eliminate before debating meaning.
  • ✓ Keep moving if one item is consuming too much time.
  • ✓ Choose the best supported answer, not a perfect imaginary one.

Avoid

  • ✗ Translating every sentence word by word.
  • ✗ Selecting an option only because the audio repeats it.
  • ✗ Adding information that the text never states.
  • ✗ Changing an answer without a clear reason.
